This project is located on the northwestern coast of Sihanoukville Bay, Cambodia, and was invested by the Royal Group of Cambodia. The geotechnical investigation included 51 exploration boreholes with a total drilling depth of 1,429 meters, 50 Standard Penetration Tests (SPT), 51 Heavy Dynamic Cone Penetration Tests (HDCPT), 41 soil samples, 23 rock samples, and 2 water samples.
The investigation commenced on November 29, 2024, and was completed on January 19, 2025. Through comprehensive investigation and testing, the site environment and geological conditions were identified. Analyses and evaluations covered site stability, adaptability, foundation uniformity, seismic intensity, and seismic effects. The soil types and site classifications were determined, liquefaction potential of saturated (silty) sand was assessed, and recommendations for foundation and base design were provided. Additionally, impacts of pile foundation construction and excavation on the surrounding environment were analyzed.
The investigation faced significant challenges, including offshore drilling operations, a tight schedule, and overlapping activities with earthwork contractors. By enhancing coordination with stakeholders, adjusting construction plans, optimizing drilling equipment allocation, and extending operational hours, the team completed all tasks within 22 days. The project met the owner’s timeline requirements with no quality, safety, or environmental issues, laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction phases.
